The Artificial Horizon can be utilized when using a sextant to determine ones position either on sea or on land while the true horizon is either barely visible or not visible at all. To that end the Freiberger Artificial Horizon uses a dark glass plate with a very smooth and even surface that reflects the light of celestial bodies. The instrument is delivered in a wooden box with two very accurate bubble levels.
